At 6:30 this morning...

I was outside shoveling a lot of snow!!! It snowed a lot over the night (about 35 cm) and it's still snowing right now! I have shoveled for an hour and a hour later, you can't tell I have done anything! Crazy! I guess I don't need to workout today, shoveling is a real workout, my arms are so sore! It really feels like winter!

This week is a short week because on Thursday, after lunch, we are heading to Québec city for the weekend! My boyfriend has an appointment for a MRI in a private clinic on Friday and this is why we are going to Québec. Here, getting an appointment for a MRI at the local hospital takes about 6-8 months (though it's free, thank you Canada health system)! Because he is going to a private clinic (it took him only one week to book an appointment there!), he will have to pay for the MRI, but insurance will pay back 75% of the cost! So that's not too bad! We will be staying at his cousin's house and we are also going to do a lot of shopping! I really miss those big malls!!!

So, this is our Menu for this week, we are keeping it pretty simple:

Monday: Tacos
Tuesday: Spaghetti and salad
Wednesday: Spring rolls and chinese noodles
Thursday: Subway (on the road)
Friday: Surprise meal at B's cousin

So, what are you cooking this week?

Miscellany Monday!

    • This week is a short week for me because we have a long weekend! Friday is June 24th, and that day is Québec National Holiday what we called St-Jean-Baptiste! (Click here to learn more!) I will probably be heading to Québec city to celebrate with my boyfriend and some friends! There is always a big party on the Plaines d'Abraham (Battlefields Park) in Québec city with Québec musicians, I have been to that  big celebration 2 times (last year and in 2009) and it's just insane!
This is a picture of what it looks like when there is no people there (it's bigger in person!):

And this is a picture on Québec's Day, with thousands of people, I'm talking about 250 000 people who get there to celebrate and that are so proud to be Quebecers on that special day!!:

    • My work contract ends on June 30th! So it means that I only have 6 more days of work until then!

    • Today is my grandma 86th birthday! And it is also my grandparents 58th anniversary! Wow!!!

    • I have applied to a job yesterday and I hope to have some news soon!

    • I did a little bit of shopping last week at Forever21 and I bought that cute dress for only 17$ :
    • I also bought a formal dress (purple) that I'm going to wear at a wedding in August! I bought it at Les Ailes de la Mode (79$) but I don't have any picture for now!

     Have a great week everyone!!!

    Internet Is Evil!!!

I am certainly not the only one in this situation... Internet is keeping me from writing my thesis! I'm always checking my emails, my blog, my bank account, watching some videos on YouTube, etc, etc, etc!!!
I'm sure that students were more able to get their work done when Internet was not in the world!
I have to work on the computer and it's really hard to focus on my thesis! There is so many distractions!
And I have to get to my goal: being done with my thesis next week!

The boyfriend and I are leaving for the weekend tomorrow after lunch! We will be in Québec city until Monday, B has a doctor's appointment there Monday morning. We will hang out with some friends Friday night, Saturday will be a shopping day (yé!) and we will have dinner with B's cousin and his wife. On Sunday, we are going to see our friend Jo and her baby Antoine (born in February), can't wait! We will stay at a friend's place, it saves us some money! It should be a fun weekend!

So, tomorrow we will hit this road and about 8 hours later, we will be in Québec city!

Happy Thursday and have a great weekend everyone!

    December 6, 1989

On December 6, 1989, I was 5 years old. But I had no idea that something horrible happened on that winter day. I was too young to notice anything like that...

This day is a dark day in the Québec History. The École Polytechnique Massacre, also known as the Montreal Massacre, occurred on December 6, 1989 at the École Polytechnique (Montréal, Québec). (The École Polytechnique is an engineering university. My older brother went there and graduated in 2006.)

« Twenty-five-year-old Marc Lépine, armed with a legally obtained Mini-14 rifle and a hunting knife, shot twenty-eight people before killing himself. He began his attack by entering a classroom at the university, where he separated the male and female students. After claiming that he was "fighting feminism", he shot all nine women in the room, killing six. He then moved through corridors, the cafeteria, and another classroom, specifically targeting women to shoot. Overall, he killed fourteen women and injured ten other women and four men in just under twenty minutes before turning the gun on himself. Lépine was the child of a French-Canadian mother and an Algerian father, and had been physically abused by his father. His suicide note claimed political motives and blamed feminists for ruining his life. The note included a list of nineteen Quebec women whom Lépine considered to be feminists and apparently wished to kill. »

This was a horrible tragedy, what else can I say... The province of Québec didn't forget what happened.... Each year, there is a commemoration for the 14 victims... 21 years later, they are not forgotten... The memory lives on... White ribbons, symbol of the struggle to stop violence against women, are worn by everybody on that day... Any kind of violence should not been allowed...

First message! (Original title, don't you think?!?!)

I've been reading a lot of blogs for the past two years... And I have finally decided to create my own!
I want to share some parts oy my life (broken student life may I add!) and I want to share that in English!!! I'm from Québec (Canada) so, French is my first language and I think that writing in English will help me improving my skills! I watch a lot of movies and DVD in English, but I don't get the chance to speak or to write a lot! So, this blog will be a good exercise for me! (So, there will be some grammar and spelling mistakes, be indulgent!)

The title of my blog « Les mots ne mentent pas » is in French and it means something like that: « Words don't lie ». In fact, it's a line from Paul Eluard's poem  La terre est bleue comme une orange, a surrealist poem that I just love! Literature is my passion!

    About me
I live in Québec city, national capital of Québec. I moved here about 6 years ago for college and I'm still in college, trying to finish my Master Degree in Literature! (I will talk about that later!) I originally come from a little town in the east of Québec (an 8.5 hour drive!). My parents still live there but I don't get to see them often. I like my hometown, but my home is now here, in Québec city!

I just love my city, it's so beautiful!

As you can see, American readers, Québec is not too far from USA!

I moved with B. my boyfriend of 8 years(!!!) past June! Moving together was a big step but we were definitely ready for that! I just love being with him and having dinner with him (almost) every night! We live in a nice appartment and I can't wait to decorate it! (We didn't paint any walls when we moved here because B. is actually job hunting and we don't know if we are going to stay here long! I hope he finds a job soon!)

I love my life and I'm grateful for what I have!

It's weird to write a long text in English, I feel like I'm writing a dissertation for school!!! In fact, it reminds me of High School English class haha!!! I have to get use to, I think!

    See ya!
