DIY Project: IKEA Drawer Chest Makeover

I have never showed you the DIY project I did a couple months ago for our upstairs living room!

I had an old white drawer chest (bought at IKEA like 20 years ago!) from my childhood bedroom and I had the great idea to give a second life to it! 

I put a black/white damask wallpaper on each drawer (3) and I had to be really careful because of the damask pattern, I wanted it to be perfect! It took me like 6 hours to do it! I painted the top and sides with black paint. I also purchased 6 silver knobs and I think the final result is great! And it looks really nice in our grey living room!

Total transformation cost:  $50 (approximatively)

Unfortunately, I didn't think to snap any pictures of it before the makeover!!! But you can figure that it was a really old piece of furniture, it used to be white, but it was more like a pale yellow color ha!

Keeping It Real!

This is how our office/guest room looks like right now. 

This is where I write my thesis on a daily basis, this is why papers are all over the room!!! This is an organized mess ha! 

The important thing is that I actually got a lot writing done in the past days and this is going well! I have to keep up the inspiration and the motivation! I have a lot of edits to do. Can't wait to be done!

What's Cooking in my Kitchen?

Last night, I cooked a fantastic dinner! It was so good!

The menu: 

-Roasted potatoes with olive oil and Herbes de Provence

-Pork chops on the BBQ with an apple sauce 

(I used the BBQ all by myself for the first time haha!)

-Amazing homemade brownies!!!

Weekend Recap!

Hello everyone! Hope everyone had a great weekend! I had a great time!

On Friday afternoon, after lunch, the boyfriend and I went for a car ride outside the town! We love to do that! On our way, we stopped by McDonalds to get a chocolate milkshake for me and a vanilla milkshake for him! I just love milkshakes!

After our car ride, we went to a vehicle dealership to have a look at the new Sonata Hyundai. My boyfriend is thinking about buying that car and we are going back tonight for a test drive!

For dinner, we went at a friend house for a BBQ and it was great to see friends I have not seen in almost 2 months!

On Saturday, we did some cleaning around the house. The ceramic floor in the kitchen is finally done but there was dust everywhere! (The basement is still not finished!) After that, we went to the grocery store to get some food for our dinner. We made indian food and for dessert, I baked a fantastic lemon pie that looked just like that:

It was sooooo good!!! It was made with real lemon juice, eagle brand milk, eggs and graham cookies and it was so easy to do!

On Sunday, we went to the store to get a gift for B's step-father. We didn't know what to buy and we decided to get him a Tim Hortons gift certificate (it's like a Starbucks) because he has breakfast every morning there!

After that, we went for a walk on the beach. We live pretty close to 3 beaches (about 15 minutes away). That was a beautiful sunny day, about 23 Celcius degrees (about 73 F) with a little wind (as always). I live in North Québec and the summers are not that hot here, that was the hottest day of the summer so far ha!

After our walk on the beach, we went back home and we had dinner in our backyard and we had a jacuzzi night after that! 

It was a great weekend and I was so happy to share those moments with B!

Random Friday

I am back!!!

• I left Montréal on Saturday and I was at my grandparents house (in Trois-Rivières) for the weekend. We (my mom and I) left on Tuesday for our hometown and after 11 hours of driving, I am finally here, with my boyfriend! I am happy to be back here with him again.

• Our place is a mess right now because of the water damages we had in May! The kitchen and the basement floors are being replaced right now (it took a long time to get workers to do the job!!!) I can't wait to have a clean house again! Right now, the dishwasher and the oven are in the living room and there is dust everywhere! Not fun!!!

• I'm so tired!!! I did not get a good night of sleep last night!

• My boyfriend got me a great gift (well, it's for the two of us!): a Proform XP 185U Upright bike! I can't wait to try it! (it's still in the box!)

• I still have not found a job here. :(  I want a job!!! A real job!!! 

• We don't have plans for this weekend... Probably some cleaning!!! We may do a romantic dinner tomorrow night if the ceramic in the kitchen is done!

Lucky in Our Bad Luck!

This is a picture (from my phone) of what happened this morning when I was alone! We had a big water damage in our basement ceiling! The suspended ceiling dropped on our new plasma TV because of a water leak! The TV was on while I was on the computer and bang! the ceiling just dropped on the TV and the TV screen became all pink and blue! So, our TV is clearly dead! And our DVD collection, blue-ray player, TV stand and sofa also! There was water everywhere on the floor!

I called B in panic and he came back from work (he works 7 minutes away from the house!) and I also called Mart, our friend and house's owner who lives just across the street! And guess what? Mart is also our insurance guy! So we will quickly receive the money to replace everything! We are lucky in our bad luck!

Now, I'm waiting for the Sinisco guys, the cleaning screw that is supposed to come to clean deeper and to make sure there is no mildew in the walls!!!  There was a major leak that came from the 1st floor, in the kitchen! I hope everything will be fixed quickly!

So, I will probably be MIA in the next few days, it looks that we will have to move out everything that is in the basement because the floors may have to be replaced!
That bad luck didn't come at a very good time!!!

• I got great news yesterday: I will receive a huge tax refund soon! Way more than I expected! I'm so happy!!! Thank you Government of Canada and Government of Québec! 

• We are going over to our friends house tonight and we will have fondue! It's been a while since we saw our friends (they were in Mexico for 2 weeks), it will be a fun evening, I'm sure! We always have a great time at their place! 

• Winds and rain were insane all night long! We didn't get a lot of sleep!!! 

• Today, I cleaned up the whole house and I did a lot of laundry! It took me like 4 hours! Having a three-level house has its bad sides!

• A friend of mine got engaged! Once again, I'm feeling really jealous (but happy for her!)!!!

• I'm off to get beautified! I have to do my hair and my makeup for tonight!

Today is my parents 29th anniversary! Happy anniversary to them!!! 29 years is a long time! They got married in April 1982 when my mom was 23 and my father 25! They met in university circa 1979 I think, my mom was evolved in an other relationship but my father won her heart! I'm so glad he did!!!

Random Friday!

• I had an exhausting week! I worked out in the mornings and all day long, I had to write my thesis! At nights, I went to our new place to paint et to do some cleaning and unpacking with my mom! This weekend will be the last big weekend to paint the place! Can't wait!!!

• I applied to some jobs but I have not heard anything yet... This is a stressful thing for me... I just hope to find a job soon!!!

• Lately, I'm kind in a lack of inspiration for my blog... I just seem to repeat myself week after week... I don't feel like writing a lot...

• My parents are getting a new car! Instead of selling it right away, they will lend me their old car for some months, so I'm happy! Very nice of them!

• Some friends of B are getting married this summer! I'm happy for them but I'm also kind of jealous because B and I have been together for 8.5 years and his friends only have been dating for like 2 years, I feel like my turn will never come... Each time B's friends get engaged or married, I feel that way because I just feel that B is not ready for that, even if he is now 29 and I'm 26... (and according to me, 8.5 years of dating is a long time, I don't know what B needs to make the move. We know each other so much and we live together and everything is fine.. Is he uncertain of his love for me or what?!) and I'm questioning myself...  He knows that I do want to get married but I know that he is not thrilled when I watch weddings tv shows and  when I talk about those shows!!! (thing that I rarely do!!!)

This is some of the wine we drank on New Year Eve!!! (A few other bottles are not pictured! About 15 other bottles were in the other side!) We don't do things lightly! (Well, we were at least 20 people I think!)

And I also have to tell you that this is a picture of our future house that we are going to rent... You can see the ugly curtains in the back (this is the living room area), I can't wait to burn it ha! ;)

Opinions needed!

I need your opinions about a lamp I want to buy for our new living room. The lamp is made with little crystals and would look so beautiful in our new home! I'm just in love with it!!!

This is the lamp I REALLY want, it is about 26 inches of height:

My question is: Do you think the lamp is too girly? It sure seems to sparkle a little ( I have not seen the lamp yet, I'm going to the store this weekend!) but I don't think it's too much! B doesn't like anything too girly and I really want him to like this lamp and let me have it haha! I already told him he could do what he wanted with the basement! It could be a good negociation plan! :) 

B is so difficult to please when it comes to decoration, he gives me so many restrictions, like nothing with flowers on it, no purple no pink (I understand for the pink, but come on, purple is not that girly!), nothing too sparkly, etc. The thing is that I love all those things haha! I'm sure we will come to an agreement!

What about your boyfriends? Do they approve your decoration choices? Or they don't really care?

Miscellaneous Monday

We are having a big snowstorm right now! Big snowflakes are beautiful! It's supposed to snow something between 25 cm and 35 cm, so it's a big one!  I will probably post some pictures of the storm later!  My sister was supposed to come home by airplane but she is stuck North! And my parents are also coming back today, I just hope the road will be fine, they have a 8.5 hour ride to do!

The boyfriend returned to work this morning, so we can't go for a ride in the woods, that's too bad! We sure will this weekend!

As some of you may know, my boyfriend moved to our hometown a few weeks ago for his new job and I will be joigning him in March. And we just got good news! Our apartment in Québec city had been rented for March 1st! (so we don't have to pay until June 30th., the end of our lease!) Our official moving day is February 20th because it's the only time B's step-dad could help us move with his truck. My employment contract ends on March 1st, so I will have to stay at a friend's apartment for a couple of days,because our apartment will be empty, it's hard to live somewhere with no refrigerator or oven! I should be back in our hometown by March 3rd, I think!

And we got another great news! Instead of renting an apartment in town, we have the opportunity to rent a town house (for the same price yéé!)! B's friend is moving with his girlfriend in her house and we will be renting his house, at least for a year, so that's great! We will paint at least the living room and the dining area, I can't wait! (The colors are very ugly, the walls have not be painted in probably 15 years!)
